# Skani Privacy Policy Effective Date: June 30, 2026 ## Overview Skani is a local-first document scanner for iPhone and iPad. It is designed to help users scan documents, create PDF files, recognize text with OCR, organize saved scans, and share or export documents when they choose. This Privacy Policy explains how Skani handles information when you use the app. ## Information Skani Handles Skani may handle the following information on your device: - Scanned document images - Generated PDF files - Document names - Document creation dates - Page counts and file sizes - OCR text recognized from scanned documents - Text highlights created by the user - PDF highlight annotations created from selected OCR text - User-selected document settings, such as output mode and PDF quality This information is used only to provide the app's document scanning, editing, search, preview, OCR, export, and sharing features. ## Camera Access Skani requests camera access so you can scan documents. Camera access is used only when you start a scan. Skani does not use the camera in the background. ## Local Storage Skani stores saved scans locally on your device. This includes generated PDFs, saved document information, original scanned pages used for editing, OCR text, highlighted text, and PDF highlight annotations. Skani may store document metadata separately from OCR text and highlights so the local library can load faster. These files remain in the app's local storage on your device. Skani does not upload your scans, PDFs, original scanned pages, OCR text, highlights, document settings, or document metadata to Barcala Studio servers. ## OCR Text Recognition Skani uses on-device text recognition to extract readable text from scanned documents. Recognized text is stored locally so you can search, copy, export, and highlight document text. When you highlight recognized text, Skani stores the highlight locally and may add a matching highlight annotation to the PDF so the highlighted text is visible when previewing or exporting the document. OCR results may contain text from sensitive documents if those documents are scanned. You control which documents are scanned, saved, shared, exported, or deleted. ## Files App, Sharing, and Export Skani lets you share PDFs, export PDFs to the Files app, and export OCR text when you choose to do so. When you use iOS sharing or Files export features, the selected document or text may be handled by Apple system services or by apps and locations you select. Skani does not control the privacy practices of third-party apps, cloud storage providers, or external services that you choose during sharing or export. ## Data Collection Skani does not collect personal data from users. Skani does not use analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, tracking SDKs, or third-party data collection tools. Skani does not sell user data. Skani does not track users across apps or websites. ## Network Use Skani's core scanning, OCR, editing, storage, preview, search, sharing, and export features are designed to work locally on the device. The app does not require an account or server connection for its core document scanning workflow. ## Third-Party Services Skani uses Apple system frameworks for camera access, document scanning, OCR, local storage, PDF handling, sharing, and Files export. Use of Apple services is governed by Apple's privacy practices. Skani does not include third-party advertising or analytics services. ## User Choices and Controls Users can: - Allow or deny camera access in iOS Settings - Save scanned documents locally - Rename saved documents - Delete saved documents - Add, delete, reorder, and combine pages - Copy or export OCR text - Highlight OCR text and save those highlights with PDFs - Share or export PDFs only when they choose Deleting a document in Skani removes that document from the app's local library, including its local PDF, saved document information, original scanned pages, OCR text, and highlight data. Copies already shared, exported, saved to Files, uploaded to cloud storage, or sent to another app must be managed in those separate locations. ## Children's Privacy Skani is not designed to collect personal information from children. Because Skani does not collect personal data, it does not knowingly collect personal information from children. ## Security Skani keeps document data local to the device. Users should protect their device with iOS security features such as a passcode, Face ID, Touch ID, and device encryption. No method of electronic storage is completely risk-free, but Skani is designed to avoid unnecessary data transfer by keeping scans local unless the user chooses to share or export them. ## Changes to This Policy This Privacy Policy may be updated if Skani's features, data handling, or privacy practices change. Updates should include a new effective date. ## Contact Barcala Studio Use the support contact listed on the Skani App Store product page. ## App Store Connect Privacy Summary This summary is provided for App Store Connect preparation and should be reviewed before submission. - Data collected by developer: None - Tracking: No - Third-party advertising: No - Analytics: No - Account required: No - Camera access: Used only for document scanning - Documents, OCR text, highlights, and document settings: Stored locally on device - Sharing/export: User initiated only - Privacy policy URL: Required in App Store Connect after this policy is published online
