readMeNow Privacy Policy

readMeNow is designed to keep your reading data on your device.

DATA READMENOW HANDLES

readMeNow stores the PDFs and EPUBs you import, extracted or OCR-recognized text, chapter edits, reading and listening progress, highlights, voice-note recordings, and optional transcripts in the app's private local storage. This information is used only to provide reading, narration, annotation, and resume features.

DATA COLLECTION AND TRACKING

readMeNow does not create user accounts, display advertising, use third-party analytics, track users, sell personal information, or send your books, extracted text, annotations, recordings, transcripts, or reading history to Barcala Studio or other third parties. iCloud synchronization is not enabled.

The app keeps bounded aggregate operational diagnostics in its private local container, such as narration startup timing, cache health, playback failures, coarse EPUB failure categories, peak memory, and export outcomes. Apple MetricKit may provide delayed aggregate crash and performance information to the installed app. These diagnostics contain no book content, titles, file paths, notes, recordings, or persistent user/device identifiers. They are not uploaded by readMeNow and are not exposed through a customer diagnostics or sharing interface.

PERMISSIONS

Microphone access is requested only after you choose to record a voice note. When a recording finishes, readMeNow may request speech-recognition access to create an optional on-device transcript. The recording remains available if transcription is unavailable or permission is denied.

OCR is performed on the device only after you request it. readMeNow accesses only documents you select and copies imported PDFs and EPUBs into its private local storage.

OPTIONAL KOKORO DOWNLOAD

On compatible Apple-silicon Macs, iPhones, and iPads, you may choose the optional Kokoro English narrator. readMeNow then downloads the public model and selected voice files from Hugging Face over HTTPS, verifies their integrity, and stores them locally. No book text, annotation, recording, transcript, reading history, device identifier, or user profile is sent with this download. Hugging Face may receive ordinary network connection information, such as an IP address, under its own privacy policy.

DATA RETENTION AND DELETION

Your data remains on the device until you delete a book or remove the app. After confirmation, deleting a book removes the app's local PDF or EPUB copy, extracted text, progress, highlights, voice notes, and transcripts associated with that book. Aggregate operational diagnostics are removed when the app is deleted. readMeNow marks its private Application Support data as excluded from device and computer backups on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.

CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

readMeNow does not knowingly collect personal information from children or any other users.

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

If readMeNow's data practices change, this policy and its effective date will be updated before the changed practices are released.
